Malaysia logs 190,304 marriages, 60,457 divorces in 2024 — DOSM

PUTRAJAYA, Nov 20 — Malaysia registered 190,304 marriages and 60,457 divorces in 2024, according to the Marriage, Divorce and Rujuk Statistics 2025 released by the Statistics Department (DOSM) today.

Chief statistician Datuk Seri Mohd Uzir Mahidin said in a statement today that the number of marriages in 2024 rose 0.9 per cent to 190,304, up from 188,614 in 2023.

“The Crude Marriage Rate remained unchanged at 5.6 per thousand people in 2024. Muslim marriages accounted for 72.3 per cent of all marriages recorded,” he said.

According to Uzir, divorces in 2024 increased by 4.1 per cent to 60,457 from 58,095 in 2023, with the Crude Divorce Rate rising to 1.8 from 1.7 per thousand people.

“The number of Muslim divorces increased by 7.3 per cent in 2024 (47,577) as compared with 2023 (44,322),” he added.

Meanwhile, the report said the number of “rujuk” cases in 2024 fell 4.7 per cent to 5,563 from 5,835 in the previous year.

Selangor recorded the highest number of rujuk at 1,148, while Labuan had the lowest with 13.

According to the Islamic Development Department (Jakim), “rujuk” is a husband restoring marital ties with a wife who was divorced through “talak raj’ie”.
