Selangor earmarks over RM23m to eradicate poverty next year

SHAH ALAM, Nov 19 — The Selangor government has allocated RM23.48 million for poverty eradication programmes next year, with a focus on improving B40 households and Orang Asli communities’ welfare.

State executive councillor for human resources and poverty eradication Papparaidu Veraman said the figure includes RM18.48 million for Jom Shopping vouchers during major festive seasons, as well as an additional RM2 million to expand the benefit to B40 and hardcore poor families.

“Our focus isn’t just on cash aid, but on interventions that truly help families exit the poverty cycle,” he said during a press conference after the Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting here today.

He added that another RM2 million has been set aside for the Poverty Eradication Blueprint Equipment Assistance Programme, while RM1 million has been allocated for the Indian Selangor Empowerment and Entrepreneurs Development (I-SEED) initiative.

The state has also channelled RM3 million for the Home Repairs and Reconstruction Programme to ensure the poor and Orang Asli communities can enjoy safer, more comfortable homes.
