SHAH ALAM, Nov 14 — Places at risk of heavy rain and high water flow rate will be receiving help from the 2026 Selangor Budget, as RM12.89 million will be allocated to the state’s Irrigation and Drainage Department, with the addition of 10 new projects to help fortify its drainage system.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Amirudin Shari said that the development of an efficient drainage system is vital for Selangor’s growth.

“This development not only functions to control water flow, but also enhances the resilience of urban infrastructure and protects communities from the risk of flood disasters.

“This measure will ensure that the state’s drainage system not only operates efficiently, but also becomes a key support for the rapid development of urban and rural areas that require high-quality infrastructure,” he said during the budget’s tabling in the State Legislative Assembly today.

Amirudin added that RM4 million will be allocated to 11 new projects covering upgrades and reinforcement works to coastal barriers in affected areas, to fortify coastal protection, and ensure residents’ safety from recurring damage threats.

Many efforts have also been made under the budget’s sixth pillar for environmental sustainability and infrastructure excellence, including:

Bridge building projects: RM5 million allocated for three projects, including the completion of the bridge at Kampung Sungai Buah in Sepang, the bridge over Sungai Serigala on Route B44 along Jalan Hulu Bernam-Sungai Besar in Hulu Selangor, and upgrading the bridge along Jalan Ara in Bagan Pasir, Tanjung Karang, Kuala Selangor.

Construction of new roads: RM24.9 million allocated for three main road construction projects to ensure strong development, as well as supporting the economic and mobility growth better.

Improving road quality: RM74.35 million allocated for four projects to upgrade critical roads, which include Jalan Bukit Rimau in Klang (Package One) for RM14.5 million, Jalan Negeri B148; Jalan Telok Gong from Glenmarie Cove Junction to Jalan Ikan Tenggiri Junction for RM19.35 million, the B17 Route (Jalan Reko) for RM20.5 million, and Jalan B48 from Simpang Tiga Jenderam to Pekan Sepang Lama for RM20 million.

Mega Road Resurfacing Programme: RM55 million allocated for the Precast Reinforcement System, an Indonesian technology to be introduced for the first time in Selangor.

Public market transformation: RM6 million will be allocated to improve public facilities in the state, with the primary focus on basic infrastructure repairs, improvements to drainage and sanitation systems, and the provision of more modern, well-organised, user-friendly facilities.

Flood mitigation project development: RM54.34 million allocated in an effort to strengthen these projects with the addition of 17 new initiatives that include river basins in Sungai Klang (RM16.92 million), Sungai Langat (RM16.51 million), Sungai Selangor (RM5.74 million), Sungai Buloh (RM1 million), and Sungai Bernam, as well as Sungai Kapar Besar (RM2.8 million).

River basin development: RM11.51 allocated to the state Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS) with the addition of 10 new projects to provide technical expertise services capable of ensuring that each river basin is managed with precision, integration, and effectiveness.

Environmentally-friendly drainage management: Developing the Environmentally Friendly Drainage Master Plan (Pisma) for Hulu Langat at a cost of RM500,000, RM 15 million for Rawang Integrated Flood Retention Pond Strategic Project, three projects that will cost RM67.50 million, with RM8.65 million allocated to JPS for 2026.

Retention pond maintenance: RM5 million has been allocated for maintenance work on retention ponds to sustain pond operations and strengthen Selangor’s capacity to reduce flood risks.
