SHAH ALAM, Nov 14 — The state government has allocated RM110.1 million under the 2026 Selangor Budget to strengthen water supply resilience through the Water Grid Interconnectivity project, aimed at ensuring sustainable and uninterrupted supply statewide by 2030.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd will use the funds for construction and consultancy works covering water lines in Petaling, Gombak, Kuala Lumpur, Hulu Selangor, Klang, Hulu Langat, Sepang, and Kuala Selangor.
“The state government remains committed to ensuring that the people of Selangor have access to an adequate, high-quality and resilient water supply through the implementation of high-impact projects under Air Selangor,” he said during the budget’s tabling in the State Legislative Assembly today.
As part of the initiatives under its sixth pillar, encompassing environmental sustainability and infrastructure excellence, Selangor has raised the household income ceiling for the Air Darul Ehsan (Sade) free water scheme from RM5,000 to RM6,000 per month.
Amirudin added that RM20 million has also been allocated for 2026, while Air Selangor will bear the remaining RM52.7 million in annual programme costs.
He also welcomed the completion of the Raw Water Security Scheme (SJAM) pumping infrastructure at Sungai Selangor and Sungai Semenyih, as it had prevented shutdowns during recent pollution incidents at the Rantau Panjang, SSP1, SSP2, SSP3, and Semenyih water treatment plants (WTPs).
“The success in overcoming these river pollution issues has demonstrated the effectiveness of the SJAM project and the efforts implemented by the state government,” he said, noting that RM3.5 million has been set aside for 2026 to cover Defect Liability Period costs under the project, including final payments.
The Menteri Besar also announced that the Phase Two Rasau WTP, with a daily capacity of 700 million litres, will begin construction from 2026 to 2028.
He said the RM2.6 billion project, fully financed by Air Selangor, is expected to supply water to 467,000 accounts in Petaling and Kuala Langat by 2031, with tender evaluations for the plant, reservoir and distribution system expected to conclude by December 2025.
Other projects announced include:
RM542.8 million for the pipe replacement programme, which has doubled its yearly target to 300 kilometres since 2024. As of August 2025, 980.18 kilometres of pipes have been replaced statewide.
Air Selangor will continue its Non-Revenue Water Reduction Programme with RM40.4 million in 2026.
RM118.5 million allocated for recovery and repair works at major WTPs, including Langat 2, Sungai Labu, Sungai Langat, Sungai Semenyih, Wangsa Maju, Batang Kali, Bukit Nanas, Cheras Batu 11, and Kuala Kubu Baharu.
