SHAH ALAM, Nov 14 — The state government has allocated RM100 million under the 2026 Selangor Budget to ensure all preparations for the Malaysian Games (Sukma) next year will be carried out to the highest standards.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Amirudin Shari said the funds will focus on three main components: upgrading sports facilities, athlete and coach preparation, as well as community involvement and volunteerism.

“Among the main sports facility upgrades in conjunction with the hosting of the 2026 Sukma is the renovation and upgrading of the Selangor Aquatic Centre in Section 13, Shah Alam.

“This project is expected to be completed by June 12, 2026, in time for Sukma, which will be held from August 15 to 24, and the Para Sukma Games from September 5 to 14,” he said when tabling the budget at the State Legislative Assembly today.

Amirudin added that Selangor’s selection to host the 22nd Sukma and Para Sukma — its first since 1998 — reflects the trust in the state’s infrastructure, human resources, and collective determination to organise such a prestigious event.

“Sukma is seen as a platform that can be the birthplace for new sporting talents while also encouraging the spirit of unity and growth of the local economy,” he said.

These efforts will also help prepare Selangor as the state is expected to host the Islamic Solidarity Games (ISG) 2029, which is anticipated to provide an economic boost.

The preparations are part of the budget’s fourth pillar, which is to advance arts and culture and empower youths.

Other initiatives under the pillar include:

  • Arts and culture development: Selangor will continue to empower the arts and culture scene. Additionally, in conjunction with Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj’s silver jubilee celebrations, the state government will organise several programmes, including the Royal Concert, the Royal Classic Car Gathering, the Exhibition on His Royal Highness’ Reign at the Sultan Alam Shah Museum, and multiracial and indigenous cultural programmes, with district-level cultural events.

  • Gallery Hopping Selangor: A total of RM500,000 has been allocated for gallery hopping and themed exhibition initiatives, including a contemporary art gallery and a gallery featuring paintings related to Asean and Nusantara history.
