SABAK BERNAM, Nov 9 — The embankment upgrading project linked to the recent seawater overflow incident in Kampung Seri Sentosa, Sekinchan, is expected to be fully completed by March next year.
Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari said the incomplete structure had caused leakage during the high tide phenomenon, affecting around 20 houses.
“I believe the embankment structure can be strengthened. We are now taking immediate measures to ensure the embankment is no longer overtopped by seawater,” he said after officiating the 2025 Ban Canal Carnival at Parit 14 in Simpang Lima, Sabak Bernam yesterday.
Amirudin added that swift action had been taken, including installing pumps and temporary barriers to prevent seawater intrusion.
“The high tide season is expected to end this weekend. Based on the seasonal pattern, the tidal overflow should subside by next weekend. Therefore, we hope such incidents can be avoided in the future,” he said.
The Menteri Besar noted that three families are still being housed at the temporary relief centre in Dewan Seri Sekinchan while recovery works are underway.
The high tide phenomenon on early Thursday (November 6) morning caused seawater overflow along Pantai Parit Lima and Kampung Seri Sentosa, leading to erosion and damage to the embankment.
This marks the first large-scale breach incident to occur in the area.
