SABAK BERNAM, Nov 8 — The state government will announce new development projects in Sabak Bernam when the 2026 Selangor Budget is tabled next week, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
“Among the completed projects is the people’s housing in Taman Air Manis, which has buyers and is slated for official launch. Beside that project is another development that I will announce in the budget,” he said when speaking at the Ban Canal Carnival here today.
He added that the area’s agricultural identity will be preserved, though there are areas that will be upgraded or their uses converted to fulfil current needs.
“We will maintain a large portion, but there are areas that we want to convert or upgrade, like fish landing locations. Those will still be there. If not developed or improved, we will be stuck in a rut,” he said.
According to Amirudin, the state government will emphasise infrastructure and support system upgrades to ensure the agriculture sector continues growing.
“We will add value to support systems for agricultural activities in Sabak Bernam and through the Sabak Bernam Development Area (Sabda).”
Meanwhile, while speaking about the Ban Canal Carnival in Parit 14, Simpang Lama here, Amirudin said it has received encouraging response and could surpass its targeted visitor numbers on its last day tomorrow.
“The Ban Canal (Carnival), which is in its third edition, keeps growing every year, including with more agencies’ joining and nearly 1,000 participants for the padi field run.
“I believe the number of visitors will exceed 20,000 as targeted,” Amirudin said.
The Ban Canal Carnival, organised by Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, under the Sabda initiative, will end tomorrow. It features various activities such as a padi field run, watersports, cultural performances, products sold by local entrepreneurs, and the “Bicara Malam Jumaat” segment that is the highlight of the event every year.
