SHAH ALAM, Nov 7 — The Selangor government today launched the ‘Ambulans Kita Selangor’ (AKS) initiative, a free health mobility service aimed at improving emergency response and supporting low-income residents under five local councils (PBTs) in the state.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said 48 ambulance vehicles will be deployed under the programme, supported by a RM1 million allocation to ensure faster and more convenient access to emergency and health services for those in need.
He said the programme is part of the state’s proactive measures to address delays in ambulance response times through a strategic collaboration with St John Ambulans Malaysia Selangor, which serves as the main implementation partner.
“For the initial phase, the AKS programme will be introduced in the districts of Petaling, Kuala Langat and Kuala Selangor, covering five PBTs and 26 state constituencies from Ijok to Sungai Pelek.
“This initiative is part of our efforts to ensure health mobility services reach the people quickly and efficiently, with the best possible quality of care,” he told reporters after officiating the launch at the Selangor State Secretary’s building here today.
Also present was state executive councillor for public health and environment Jamaliah Jamaluddin.
The five PBTs involved are the Shah Alam City Council, Petaling Jaya City Council, Subang Jaya City Council, Kuala Langat Municipal Council and Kuala Selangor Municipal Council.
Amirudin said the AKS service provides free one-way or round-trip ambulance transport between patients’ homes and public health facilities, easing the burden of those who cannot afford transportation to hospitals for follow-up treatments or medical appointments.
He said the service specifically targets households earning RM5,000 and below per month, bedridden patients, and those who require medical support such as oxygen supply during transit.
“Apart from reducing the workload at public healthcare facilities, the AKS initiative also helps lower the financial strain on eligible groups. Private ambulance services can cost between RM350 and RM600 per trip,” he said.
The menteri besar added that the 48 ambulance vehicles will operate on a trial basis until November next year, after which the state government will assess the potential to expand the programme to six additional districts.
Amirudin had previously announced the AKS initiative during the tabling of the Selangor Budget 2025, describing it as one of the commitments under the '5 Tekad 5 Tahun' (Five Determinations for Five Years) manifesto for the 2023 state election.
