SHAH ALAM, Nov 5 — Police have opened an investigation into a case of 61 Malaysian students being stranded for over three hours at the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Indonesia due to a problem with the travel agent.
Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said seven police reports have been received on the incident, according to a Harian Metro article.
“Investigations are ongoing under Section 420 of the Penal Code,” he said today.
Previously, media reports said the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta was aiding 61 students who were left stranded for over three hours at the airport on October 23.
Malaysian Ambassador to Indonesia Datuk Syed Mohamad Hasrin Tengku Hussin said the embassy placed the students at a hotel near the airport with the help of a Malaysian travel agent in Jakarta.
The incident had gone viral on social media after the stranded students claimed to have been cheated by their travel agent. The Malaysian Embassy there then contacted a local travel agency run by a Malaysian to help the victims.
