SHAH ALAM, Nov 4 — Forty factories and a house that were illegally occupying government land in Sungai Buloh for over 20 years were demolished in a major Selangor Land and Mines Office (PTGS) operation yesterday.

PTGS assistant director Mohammad Nadzirul Hafizie M. Daud said action was taken after the office found the area was being used without official approval.

He said demolition was carried out under Section 425 of the National Land Code, which prohibits the trespassing and use of government land without approval.

“The trespassed area is a former Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) reserve land with government land status.

“We issued a warning to all premise owners to vacate the area before demolition,” he told a press conference in Sungai Buloh today.

The integrated operation involved 400 personnel from agencies including the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), local authorities, Civil Defence Force, Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd, TNB, and National Water Services Commission (SPAN).

The 4ha area housed various premises such as auto workshops, iron factories and storage facilities.

Nadzirul added that some premise owners had temporary occupancy licences, but they are now expired as they were never renewed.

“The state government doesn’t prohibit development or economic activities, but all parties must ensure their businesses are run according to laws and rules,” he said.

He also said the state government is offering a 20 per cent discount on premiums for premise owners who want to redo their temporary occupancy licences.

Meanwhile, Sungai Buloh police chief Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor said his men launched two operations in the area to allow for enforcement action.

“Police are always committed to help government agencies ensure laws can be enforced well, and to ensure safety at operation locations,” Hafiz said.

Cleanup is now underway at the site to allow the government land to be used for legal, planned development.
