SHAH ALAM, Nov 2 — Free influenza vaccinations for 12,500 pupils in four state districts with the highest number of cases will be carried out starting next week, said the state executive councillor for public health and the environment Jamaliah Jamaluddin.
The initiative, involving Petaling, Klang, Gombak, and Hulu Langat and funded with an allocation of RM1 million, aims to ensure that children — especially those from low-income (B40) families — are protected from influenza infection and to reduce its spread within the community.
“The Selangor Health Department (JKNS) recommends that pupils aged eight and below receive two doses of the influenza vaccine, except for those who have already been vaccinated previously.
“This step is crucial to ensure optimal immunisation protection against infection among high-risk children,” she said.
Jamaliah added that the programme will be implemented through two approaches: outreach programmes in schools with Integrated Special Education Programmes (PPKI), and walk-in services at Selcare Clinics or panel clinics. Parents must register via the SELangkah mobile app.
Outreach teams will be mobilised to schools with PPKI to provide influenza vaccinations to about 4,720 pupils aged eight and below from B40 families.
“Each pupil will receive a detailed information leaflet on the programme along with a QR code for parents to register via SELangkah.
“The state government, through Selcare Management Sdn Bhd, will collaborate with the Selangor Education Department, JKNS, school administrations, and Community Service Centres to ensure the programme's smooth implementation,” she said.
Additionally, children from B40 families who have comorbidities or chronic illnesses but are not enrolled in schools with PPKI may go directly to Selcare Clinics or panel clinics to receive the vaccine.
“Parents must register and verify their status through SELangkah before visiting the clinic,” Jamaliah said.
