SHAH ALAM, Nov 24 — The state government will assess the need to expand the influenza vaccination programme to five more districts next year, depending on the current situation as evaluated by the Selangor Health Department (JKNS).
State executive councillor for public health and the environment Jamaliah Jamaluddin said its expansion will focus on several priority groups and areas, based on data-driven needs.
“Among the main focuses is that vaccination for primary school pupils will be expanded to districts not yet covered in 2025, with priority based on influenza infection incidence rates, population density, and the availability of vaccination facilities.
“The target groups also include senior citizens and individuals with chronic illnesses, in line with efforts to protect high-risk groups from influenza infection,” she said.
Jamaliah was responding to Kota Damansara state assemblyman Muhammad Izuan Kasim's query on whether the state government had plans to expand the vaccination programme to other districts, during the State Legislative Assembly sitting today.
She added that the state government will also strengthen strategic cooperation with JKNS, the District Health Offices (PKD), and Selcare panel clinics to ensure more comprehensive and effective implementation.
“The Selangor government, via the Standing Committee on Public Health, has started implementing the influenza vaccination immunisation programme for primary school pupils aged eight and below.
“It began in the second week of November 2025 in four districts that recorded the highest influenza infection rates, namely Petaling, Klang, Gombak, and Hulu Langat,” Jamaliah said.
The state government introduced the Selangor Children’s Vaccination Programme (Selvaksin) on November 10 to address the increasingly concerning spread of influenza. This initiative offers free influenza vaccine injections to high-risk children as an early preventive measure to safeguard the health of young people in the state.
According to a statement from Selgate Healthcare, the programme is open to children aged eight and below who have at least one chronic illness or comorbidity.
Recipients must also come from B40 families with a household income of RM5,250 and below, and must have resided in Selangor for at least 10 years.
The vaccination locations include the Selgate Specialist Hospital Rawang and six selected Selcare Clinic branches: in Unisel Shah Alam, Putrajaya, Puchong, Kota Damansara, and SkyPark Subang.
