KUALA SELANGOR, Nov 1 — The Selangor Heritage Food Festival held today serves as a platform to showcase the state’s rich cultural identity and the strength of its diverse communities.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the programme also highlighted elements that can further boost tourism development in Kuala Selangor.

“This is the fourth year the food festival has been organised, and we continue to highlight uniqueness. This year, we are featuring the largest serving of lempeng sagu biji mata ikan and kuih Beppa Pute, which is a traditional Bugis delicacy.

“Previously, we highlighted dishes such as nasi ambeng, satay Kajang and punten. By introducing Bugis traditional cuisine, we are showcasing cultural elements that contribute to tourism development in Kuala Selangor.

“This reflects not only the development of the area, but also the strength of our multi-ethnic and multi-religious communities, along with their history and heritage,” he said after officiating the festival here.

Earlier, the festival, attended by state executive councillor for culture Datuk Borhan Aman Shah, received recognition from the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) for distributing 4,921 pieces of lempeng sagu biji mata ikan — the most ever recorded.

A second record was set with the creation of a 25-metre-high formation of the Kuala Selangor lighthouse made using 55,000 pieces of kuih Beppa Pute, in collaboration with Puspanita Selangor.

The certificate of recognition was presented by MBOR official Megat Faris Megat Muzaffar Shah to Amirudin and Borhan.

In his speech, Amirudin said the festival's success demonstrates that Selangor is not only an economically advanced state but one that values its heritage.

“Gastronomic tourism plays an important role in positioning Selangor as a destination that is not only beautiful and modern but also rich in traditional flavours and cultural diversity,” he said.

At the same event, Amirudin presented the Best Pavilion Award to the Kuala Langat Municipal Council, which emerged as the champion and received RM1,500.

The Subang Jaya City Council was named runner-up, taking home RM1,000, while the Petaling Jaya City Council placed third with a prize of RM800.
