China's Li Qiang arrives to attend 47th Asean Summit

SEPANG, Oct 26 — Chinese Premier Li Qiang has arrived in Malaysia to attend the 47th Asean Summit and Related Summits, which are taking place in the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre starting today until Tuesday (October 28).

The special aircraft carrying Li and his delegation landed at the Bunga Raya Complex of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 4.17pm, where Transport Minister Anthony Loke welcomed them.

Li inspected a guard of honour comprising 28 officers and personnel from the Royal Malay Regiment's First Battalion.

According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry’s official website, he will take part in the 28th Asean+3 Summit, the 20th East Asia Summit, and the fifth Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) Leaders’ Meeting.

Li is undertaking his second visit to Malaysia this year at the invitation of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The Premier was previously in Kuala Lumpur for the Asean-China-GCC Summit from May 26 to May 28, also at the invitation of Anwar in his capacity as the Asean chair. He made a two-day visit to Singapore from yesterday to today, before coming to Malaysia.

Earlier, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung arrived at 2.45pm and was welcomed by Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi. Lee’s two-day visit to Kuala Lumpur marks his first trip to Southeast Asia since taking office in June.

He is expected to attend the Asean Summit, where he plans to discuss ways to advance South Korea’s Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the 10-member bloc, and to participate in the Asean+3 Three Summit involving South Korea, Japan, and China.

Malaysia, as the Asean chair for 2025, is currently hosting over 30 world leaders, including those from the Asean region, the United States, China, Japan, South Korea, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa, to deepen engagement and cooperation while addressing regional and global issues of mutual concern.
