KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 21 — A police officer with the rank of corporal pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate's Court today to three charges of defrauding three of his colleagues in relation to their transfer applications 10 years ago.
Mohd Nazri Md Sir, 39, is charged with defrauding three police officers by deceiving them in their transfer applications, even though the accused did not work in the transfer section.
The act prompted all the victims to hand over RM10,500, which was deposited into two bank accounts belonging to the accused and his wife.
The offence was allegedly committed at a Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) barracks in Cheras between August and November 2015.
All the charges were made under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail sentence of not less than one year and a maximum of 10 years, whipping, and a fine, if convicted.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Amritpreet Kaur offered bail of RM8,000 for each charge with one surety.
However, lawyer Fatin Nur Syahzanani Zakaria, who represented the accused, requested that the bail be reduced on the grounds that her client earns RM2,500 a month in addition to supporting his family and an unemployed wife.
"My client also suffers from a heart condition and requires follow-up treatment; besides, he is not at risk of absconding," she said.
Magistrate Farah Nabihah Muhamad Dan allowed the accused to be bailed at RM5,000 with two sureties for each charge, with an additional condition that the accused is not allowed to interfere with prosecution witnesses.
The court set December 3 for mention of the case.
