RAWANG, Oct 21 – A major pipe replacement project is currently underway in Bandar Country Homes, Rawang, to address long-standing water supply disruptions caused by ageing infrastructure.
The project, implemented by Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor), involves replacing water pipes that have been in use for three to four decades, which is the main cause of frequent bursts and outages in the area.
Rawang assemblyman Chua Wei Kiat said the initiative is expected to provide a long-term solution to the decades-old problem faced by residents.
“Our goal is to provide reliable water service for residents by replacing these ageing pipes and ensuring that the basic needs of the community are met effectively,” he said as reported by The Star.
He said the initial phase of the project focuses on four hotspot areas — Phases 3, 4, 12, and 13, that have been most affected by water disruptions.
Phases 3 and 4 have been allocated RM7.2 million for the replacement of 6.2km of pipes, while Phases 12 and 13 have also received RM7.2 million for a similar 6.2km stretch.

Chua added that Air Selangor selected these areas based on comprehensive data and evidence of recurring issues.
Air Selangor said residents will be informed of traffic adjustments necessary throughout the project’s duration.
At the state level, Chua said the Selangor government aims to replace approximately 300km of old pipes by the end of this year.
He said the project marks a significant step towards improving water reliability and quality for the people in Selangor.
The pipe replacement works in Bandar Country Homes are expected to be completed by June next year.
