SHAH ALAM, Oct 20 — The Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) held a meeting with KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) to obtain a detailed explanation regarding issues involving the company’s rubbish trucks.
Sinar Harian reported its managing director Dato’ Ramli Mohd Tahir as saying that the meeting provided both parties an opportunity to clarify the situation and identify the best possible solutions to the matter.
“APAD came to my office, and we discussed the issue for nearly half a day. I explained the situation, and together we sought ways to resolve it,” he said.
Ramli added that two days after the meeting, the Industrial Code of Practice (ICOP) audit team from the Road Transport Department (JPJ) also visited KDEBWM’s office to conduct reviews and interviews with the company’s management.
“I was interviewed and provided a full statement to JPJ, and I was informed that the JPJ Director-General will call me on October 21 to provide further clarification,” he said.
Ramli added that KDEBWM takes full responsibility for the matter and is currently tightening its procedures and internal controls regarding the operation of rubbish trucks across Selangor.
“We have identified the root causes of the weaknesses, issued stern warnings to vendors who failed to comply with governance standards, and taken action, including suspension or termination of contracts,” he said.
Ramli noted that KDEBWM’s business model differs from other concessionaires as all trucks are owned under KDEBWM’s name, even though third-party vendors operate them.
“Therefore, all responsibilities remain under KDEBWM. We already have a clear Service Level Agreement (SLA) with vendors, which includes control over driver licensing, vehicle maintenance, and safety compliance,” he said.
The company is also strengthening regular monitoring, ensuring that all drivers possess valid Goods Driving Licences (GDL), and improving operational standards to prevent similar incidents from recurring.
“I sincerely apologise for what has happened and take full responsibility. KDEBWM will continue to work closely with the authorities to ensure the safety and efficiency of our operations,” Ramli said.
On Wednesday (October 15), it was reported that JPJ would be summoning KDEBWM’s management in the near future regarding issues involving the company’s rubbish trucks.
