Illegal dumping persists despite KDEBWM sealing off Shah Alam site

SHAH ALAM, July 6 — Illegal dumping continues at Jalan Kota Raja 27/F, Kota Raja, Section 27, despite the area having been cleared and sealed off by KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM).

KDEBWM managing director Dato' Ramli Mohd Tahir said the company has received repeated complaints about rubbish being dumped again at the commercial area, allegedly by foreign workers from nearby premises.

"Each time we receive a complaint, the KDEBWM team will carry out a clean-up. However, inspections found that the day after the area was cleared, rubbish was again dumped illegally at the same location.

"As of noon today (Saturday), the activity was still taking place even though KDEBWM had sealed off the area to prevent illegal dumping," he told Media Selangor.

KDEBWM managing director Dato’ Ramli Mohd Tahir tells Media Selangor that individuals have continued to dump rubbish at Jalan Kota Raja 27/F despite the area being sealed off.

Ramli said KDEBWM had also proposed to the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA), through Zone 10 councillor Wan Shaharuddin Shah Ismail, that closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras be installed to curb the activity.

"However, the local authority has yet to respond to the proposal.

"We also urge residents and business owners around Jalan Kota Raja 27/F to provide KDEBWM with photographs or other evidence of illegal dumping activities to assist with follow-up action," he said.

Earlier, a Threads user identified as ckl_image uploaded photographs claiming that piles of rubbish at the site had reached the roof level of nearby premises.

"Every day I have to walk through this area to get to work. The smell is unbearable, and it has become a feeding ground for crows and stray dogs, with rubbish scattered into the drains," the user wrote.

Meanwhile, Kota Anggerik assemblyman Mohd Najwan Halimi said MBSA is identifying those responsible for the illegal dumping and will issue compounds if they are found to be involved.

"This is not the behaviour of just one or two individuals, but involves many occupants, both locals and foreign nationals.

"Several parcel packaging wrappers were also found among the rubbish. They could provide clues to those involved in the illegal dumping," he said in a Threads post.
