SHAH ALAM, Oct 19 — The Selangor government has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting and empowering the Indian community as the state administration readies for the tabling of its upcoming budget on November 14.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said that initiatives to be included in the state budget will continue to improve the overall quality of life of the community.
“Currently, my team is in the process of finalising the 2026 Selangor Budget, which will be tabled on November 14. And I ensure that the Indian community in Selangor will continue to be supported and empowered so that their quality of life can be improved,” he said in a statement today.
Amirudin said that out of 873 schools in Selangor that have recently received assistance from the state government, 98 Tamil vernacular schools (SJKT) received RM5 million to upgrade their facilities and amenities.
“Recently, the state government provided school assistance to 873 schools across the state. Of this total, 98 SJKT received RM5 million in aid to improve their facilities and amenities, as I want all students in Selangor, including SJKT students, to learn in a safe and comfortable environment,” the statement read.
In conjunction with the Deepavali festive holiday tomorrow, Amirudin touched on the diversity of the community in Selangor, which sets Selangor apart from other places.
“The state has demonstrated its commitment to celebrating cultural and ideological diversity, which forms the foundation of its success.
“To continue thriving not only in Malaysia but also to compete with advanced states in Asia, we must focus on education, as it is the key to ensuring that Selangor’s children have access to higher-quality employment opportunities,” he said.
Amirudin also took the opportunity to wish all the Hindu and Sikh communities in Selangor a Happy Deepavali.
“May you enjoy the festive season with your friends and loved ones. For those travelling outside the state, I wish you a safe journey there and back,” he said.
