Islamic agencies channel hand over RM184,000 in aid to Telok Panglima Garang storm victims

KUALA LANGAT, Oct 17 — Three Islamic agencies disbursed RM184,700 in aid to victims of the recent storm in Telok Panglima Garang, Kuala Langat, including affected residents and a damaged religious school.

The contributions came from the Islamic Development Department (Jakim), the Malaysian Islamic Economic Development Foundation (YaPIEM) and Yayasan Taqwa under the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP).

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Mohd Na'im Mokhtar said the assistance will benefit 65 households and SRA Kampung Medan, where 13 students were injured in the incident.

“Jakim contributed RM86,400, Yayasan Taqwa RM65,000, and YaPIEM RM33,300. The funds were handed directly to affected residents and the school,” he told the press after visiting the site.

Na'im added that the aid reflects the ihsan (compassion) principle under the Malaysia Madani framework, showing the government’s commitment to supporting disaster victims regardless of background.

“Religious agencies must go beyond spiritual roles and take on social and humanitarian responsibilities to ensure no one is left behind,” he said.

Of the total, RM70,000 is allocated to repair SRA Kampung Medan and its surau, which serves 1,500 students.

The minister noted that restoration will be expedited, particularly for students preparing for the Al-Quran and Fardhu Ain Classes (Kafa) Assessment Test (UPKK) on November 17.

He urged all parties to come together in supporting victims and strengthening community solidarity.

“InsyaAllah (God willing), with collective effort, recovery can be accelerated. The Madani government remains committed to the welfare of the people,” Na'im said.

The storm, which struck at 4.15pm on Wednesday (October 15), damaged six schools, a community hall, and 40 homes.

Affected areas included SMK Sijangkang Jaya, SK Sijangkang Jaya, SK Kampung Medan, SRA Kampung Medan, SK Jalan Tanjung, SK Sungai Binjai, Dewan Wawasan Batu 9, the Sijangkang state constituency coordination office, housing areas in Batu 9, and the Taman Sijangkang Jaya industrial area.

A temporary relief centre (PPS) was activated to shelter 18 people from eight families.
