eHati programme: Jakim’s study awaits Conference of Rulers' consent

SHAH ALAM, Nov 20 — The comprehensive study conducted by the Islamic Development Department (Jakim) on the module used in the Queen’s Night programme organised by eHati will be presented to the Conference of Rulers to obtain consent before the state religious authorities take any further action.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Mohd Na'im Mokhtar, said Jakim carried out the study in collaboration with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) to examine the modules.

The findings were presented at the Special Meeting of Jakim’s Aqidah Expert Panel on August 27, before the study paper and the panel’s decisions were submitted to the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs' (MKI) Muzakarah Committee's 128th Meeting on September 24.

“This decision will subsequently be presented to the Conference of Rulers to obtain consent before the state religious authorities take action,” he said in a written reply in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.

Na'im was responding to Setiu MP Shaharizukirnain Abdul Kadir's query on the allegations of ritual elements which contradicted Syariah principles in the Queen’s Night programme at the Ideal Convention Centre (IDCC) Shah Alam from September 27 to September 30, 2024, as well as actions taken or to be taken based on investigations by the religious authorities.

Concerning enforcement, he said that Jais detained six individuals, comprising two men and four women, on July 24.

All of them are being investigated under Section 7 (False Doctrine), Section 8 (False Claims), Section 10 (Insulting or Causing Islam to be Viewed with Contempt), Section 16 (Unlawful Religious Publications), and Section 46 (Abetment) of the Syariah Criminal Enactment (Selangor) 1995.

“The detentions were made on suspicion that a ceremony or act related to Islam, which contravened Syariah, had taken place,” Na'im said.

Prior to Jais’ action, PDRM also detained the six individuals on 16 July to assist investigations under Section 294 of the Penal Code (obscene acts), Section 509 (insulting modesty), and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act (indecent behaviour).

The minister added that Jakim, Jais, and PDRM continue to cooperate in examining the issue to ensure that all aspects, including the programme’s module contents, are scrutinised before actions are determined in accordance with each state's religious authority's jurisdiction.

On 16 July, the police confirmed the presence of obscene and immoral elements in the ‘eHati’ motivational programme at a convention centre in Shah Alam, which took place in September last year.

Then-Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said their investigations revealed that these incidents occurred during an activity called 'rebirth' on eHati's 'Queen’s Night' event, supposedly conducted to boost self-motivation.
