KUALA LANGAT, Oct 17 — Selangor has approved a RM350,000 initial allocation from the State Disaster Fund to carry out repair works at SRA Kampung Medan, which was severely damaged by a storm on Wednesday (October 15)
State executive councillor for Islamic affairs and innovation Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah said the preliminary assessments estimated the damage at around RM350,000, but the amount is expected to rise following further evaluation by the Public Works Department (JKR).
“We will await confirmation from JKR and request additional funds if necessary to continue the repair works,” he told the press after inspecting the damaged school today.
Fahmi added that the most serious damage involved the front block and the school’s surau, which were almost destroyed and would need to be rebuilt. In addition, the roofs and wiring systems in several other blocks must also be replaced to ensure student safety.

He also instructed the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) to expedite the repair works so that teaching and learning sessions can resume as soon as possible.
During the visit, 13 affected pupils each received a RM1,000 cash contribution from the fund, while Jais handed over RM5,000 to the school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA).
Meanwhile, the Tabung Infak Jariah Umat Islam (Tijari), via Jais, contributed RM18,000 to the PTA and affected pupils, while Halal International Selangor (HIS) also donated RM1,300 to the 13 students.
“This incident has been deeply traumatic for both pupils and teachers, but the state government remains committed to ensuring the safety and continuity of education for the students of SRA Kampung Medan,” Fahmi said.
The state government previously reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to strengthening Islamic education infrastructure, including ensuring that state religious schools are equipped with safe and conducive facilities for the younger generation.
