SHAH ALAM, Oct 16 — Pakatan Harapan is set to announce the complete list of candidates for the 17th Sabah State Election early next month, said the state's Parti Keadilan Rakyat Leadership Council chairman Datuk Mustapha Sakmud.
It intends to field candidates in 23 of the 73 State Legislative Assembly seats up for contest.
He said the candidates to be nominated will comprise a blend of experienced politicians and newcomers, technocrats and former civil servants, and branch-level leaders.
“So far, we have been informed that 21 to 23 seats will be allocated to Pakatan, but the final list of approved candidates will be announced by the Prime Minister and Keadilan president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in early November,” he told the press after the Higher Education Language Festival at Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) today.
Mustapha, who also serves as Deputy Higher Education Minister, said Pakatan's machinery is well-prepared and highly motivated to run an effective campaign to secure victories for the party’s candidates in the upcoming polls.
The Election Commission (EC) announced today that nominations for the Sabah State Election will be held on November 15, with early voting set for November 25 and polling on November 29.
On October 6, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor announced the dissolution of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly to pave the way for the state polls.
The assembly comprises 79 seats, 73 of which are elected, while six are appointed members.
