KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 6 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim hopes the upcoming 17th Sabah state election (PRN17) campaign will proceed smoothly, with the contesting parties providing the best choices for all the people of the state.
"Be careful in your discussions, campaign well, and offer the best choices for the people," he told the press after delivering a special address at the Khazanah Megatrends Forum 2025 today.
The Sabah State Legislative Assembly was dissolved this afternoon to pave the way for PRN17, after receiving the consent of Sabah Governor Tun Musa Aman. The assembly has 73 seats.
The 16th State Election in 2020 saw GRS (Gabungan Rakyat Sabah), which at the time was in a coalition with Perikatan Nasional, Barisan Nasional, and PBS, along with the support of independent state assemblymen, successfully forming the Sabah government by securing 41 out of the 73 seats.
Meanwhile, Parti Warisan won 23 seats while Pakatan Harapan managed to secure nine seats.
