PETALING JAYA, Oct 16 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has set aside RM12.2 million to maintain drains next year to boost the city’s resilience against flooding and climate change.
Petaling Jaya Mayor Mohamad Zahri Samingon said the funds are part of an overall MBPJ push to ensure the city remains safe, clean, and sustainable.
“The MBPJ continues to implement maintenance and upgrades to infrastructure such as roads, drains, slopes, streetlights, halls, markets and stalls to ensure public facilities are always in good condition,” he said when tabling the MBPJ Budget 2026 at the council headquarters here today.
He added that the council has allocated RM5.7 million to upgrade roads, while RM3.3 million has been set aside for slope maintenance in four zones.
In line with the aspiration to be a smart and safe city, Zahri said the MBPJ will improve surveillance by installing RM1.84 million worth of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras to monitor crime, disasters, and illegal waste dumping.
“Thirty new CCTV units will be set up in 27 locations, for an overall 86 units in 83 hotspots identified as high-risk areas,” he said.
Earlier, while tabling the MBPJ budget, Zahri said the council’s overall spending for 2026 is capped at RM521.7 million, including RM411.2 million for operational expenditure and RM110.5 million for development.
