SHAH ALAM, Oct 15 — The Shah Alam City Council’s (MBSA) recycling event, held in conjunction with World Cleanup Day at Kampung Jalan Kebun in Seksyen 30, received encouraging response from local residents.
Kampung Jalan Kebun village head Ahmad Muhidin Dasuki said that during the event, residents could exchange their recycling for RM5 Speedmart vouchers and earn RM2.50/kg of used cooking oil.
“When used items are collected and recycled through our Recycle and Reward initiative, it not only reduces pollution, but gives returns in ringgit that can be used.
“The amount may be small, but the benefits are great. Homes become neater, cleaner, and more comfortable,” he told Media Selangor.
Muhidin said the programme isn’t just a cleanup event, but a community movement that encourages residents’ sense of responsibility towards environmental sustainability.
He said the active involvement of residents, who participated in the event by bringing their recycling from home, reflects the community’s high awareness on the importance of preserving environmental cleanliness.
“This approach motivates residents to manage their waste more responsibly.
“Excess cooking oil collected at the MBSA recycling centre will be used to produce biodiesel, and it will prevent the pollution of drains and rivers,” Muhidin added.
