SHAH ALAM, Oct 14 — The state-level National Family Month celebration is scheduled for next month, with a forum focusing on men drawing particular attention.
State executive councillor for women’s empowerment and social welfare Anfaal Saari said this year’s celebration involves various agencies, including government-linked companies and elected representatives, to encourage a shift in mindset and approach toward family institutions.
“This time, we are involving multiple parties, and the celebration is expected to be held in the second week of November with the theme 'KASIH Keluarga Bahagia Bersama'.
“Selangor is taking an extra initiative by organising a forum on men as the pillars of family leadership, as well as on comprehensive sex education, following the emergence of various issues like bullying and, more recently, rape.
“The role of a father in a family is crucial in guiding and nurturing children, while teenagers must also be educated about safe touch, hormonal changes, and the consequences of engaging in premarital sex,” she told Media Selangor.
November has been designated as National Family Month since 2012 to encourage the involvement of all parties in strengthening family institutions within Malaysia's socio-economic framework.
November diisytiharkan sebagai sambutan Bulan Keluarga Kebangsaan sejak 2012 bertujuan menggalakkan penglibatan semua pihak untuk untuk mengukuhkan institusi keluarga dalam sosioekonomi negara.
The annual event is organised by the Women, Family, and Community Development Ministry (KPWKM) via its agency, the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN).
