KPWKM enhances fathers’ role through Kasih Madani 2.0 package

PUTRAJAYA, Nov 9 — The Women, Family, and Community Development Ministry (KPWKM) is placing renewed emphasis on strengthening fathers' roles in nurturing healthy, resilient families through the Kasih Madani 2.0 package launched today.

Its minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the Kebapaan (Fatherhood) module highlights the importance of a father’s responsibility and leadership within the family unit, reinforcing the awareness that family well-being cannot rest solely on mothers.

“We want fathers to play a meaningful leadership role. They are considered the head of the household, yet most of the responsibilities at home are often shouldered by mothers.

“It is not right for husbands to expect their wives to shoulder all the important duties; it is a shared responsibility. It is not about swapping, but about balancing them,” she said.

Nancy was speaking to the press after attending the National Family Month 2025 celebration, which was officiated by the Prime Minister’s wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail today.

She added that the package also emphasises the cultivation of noble values and character among parents, while supporting couples who have yet to have children through awareness initiatives and fertility treatments, with a particular focus on husbands.

“Fathers also need to undergo check-ups to understand that fertility issues are not solely the mother’s concern, but can also involve the father or husband,” Nancy said.

Kasih Madani 2.0 was developed by the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN) in collaboration with academics and family experts, including representatives from non-governmental organisations.

It features two core modules: Romantika Cinta (Romance of Love) and Kebapaan (Fatherhood), tailored specifically for newlyweds and fathers.

Earlier in her speech, the minister highlighted the role of KPWKM, in partnership with LPPKN, in ensuring that no family is left behind in the nation’s development.

“We recognise that today’s world is full of social and emotional challenges. Hence, through the National Family Kasih Agenda under the 13th Malaysia Plan, KPWKM focuses on parenting education and social interventions to ensure that every family in Malaysia remains balanced and resilient,” she said.

Under Budget 2026, RM4.1 billion has been allocated to KPWKM to implement a range of high-impact initiatives, including the Fertility Treatment Assistance and Infertility Advocacy Programme (BuAI), the Reproductive and Social Health Education Program (Pekerti), parenting education, and the National Family Kasih Agenda, all of which will be led by LPPKN across the country.
