SHAH ALAM, Oct 13 — The Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) continues to ensure the welfare of elderly mualafs (converts) in the state through various initiatives and ongoing assistance aimed at improving their quality of life.
Its secretary Mohd Sabirin Mohd Sarbini said the Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) is among the agencies providing support to them via financial aid, welfare assistance, and guidance to strengthen their Islamic faith.
“For the welfare of elderly mualafs, within a period of less than five years, their well-being will be cared for by LZS, as they have dedicated allocations for that purpose.
“If they have not yet completed the phase of religious strengthening, meaning they have not ‘graduated’ from basic Islamic learning, they will continue to receive assistance from LZS.
“In Selangor, if these elderly mualafs have passed the five-year period and still qualify under the asnaf categories of poor or needy, they will continue to be assisted by LZS,” he told Media Selangor after the signing ceremony of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the use of the e-Muallaf system today.
The MOU was signed to enhance the management of mualaf information in Selangor, making it more organised, efficient, and comprehensive.
Islamic Development Department (Jakim) deputy director-general (operations) Brigadier General Datuk Mohd Ajib Ismail signed the document with Sabirin.
The e-Muallaf system is a national database developed by Jakim in collaboration with the Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit (Mampu), serving as the leading platform for recording, coordinating, and verifying information on conversions to Islam and providing guidance for new converts nationwide.
