PETALING JAYA, Oct 13 — The Safer School Streets pilot project is set to create a safer traffic environment for more than 1,000 students of SMK Taman Sea.
Kampung Tunku state assemblyman Lim Yi Wei said the initiative, introduced by the non-governmental organisation (NGO) Bike Commute Malaysia, is expected to be implemented by the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) early next year.
“We have conducted a series of engagement sessions with the school, the local community, and government agencies. Our goal is to adopt a multi-stakeholder approach to develop a holistic solution.
“We hope to realise this plan. With the available allocation and support, we aim to improve safety conditions in the area,” she told Media Selangor.

Lim was speaking after attending the Community Engagement Session for the ‘Safer School Streets’ Pilot Project at the PJ Smart Centre in the MBPJ Building today.
Meanwhile, MBPJ Councillor Loh Y Lun said the council had received complaints from residents since 2023, and follow-up actions have been taken progressively with all relevant parties.
He noted that the area has seen frequent accidents, the most serious of which involved a student who was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit last year.
“In addition to students, the SS2 area also comprises an ageing community, so many senior citizens find it unsafe to cross the road.
“We have also taken steps within our capacity, such as rerouting pedestrian pathways to the back, providing a shortcut beside the school, and installing additional speed bumps,” Loh said.
