SHAH ALAM, Oct 11 — The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) centres the importance of cleanliness and environmental sustainability through its Malaysia Cleanup Day event for Zone 11, in conjunction with World Cleanup Day, which was held across the country on September 27.

The event, held at the Baitul Salam Mualaf Settlement Centre in Kampung Jalan Kebun, featured a sewerage extraction demonstration by Indah Water Konsortium (IWK).

Zone 11 councillor Muhammad Nabil Norhalim said that in conjunction with the programme, the MBSA launched Ops Sedut from September 1 to November 30 to encourage residents to make sewer tank extraction appointments for their homes.

He said many residents don’t realise their sewer tanks must undergo periodic maintenance to prevent water pollution and the risk of waterborne diseases like malaria and dengue.

“This campaign includes lucky draws for umrah packages and electronic equipment,” Nabil said.

The programme also teaches residents to differentiate between general and recyclable waste, through garbage sorting activities.

This effort is backed by the MBSA Public Cleanliness and Waste Sustainability Department, which is committed to ensure waste collection and cleanups are done systematically and continuously.

Meanwhile, Kampung Jalan Kebun village head Ahmad Muhidin Dasuki said the cooperation shown by residents in the programme was exemplary.

“Every segment of society is encouraged to play a role in ensuring cleanliness and public health. Small actions like picking up garbage and maintaining sewerage systems could have a big impact on the community,” he said.
