KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 10 — The state government has kicked off its inaugural three-day Selangor International Care Summit (SICS) to realise the vision of making Selangor an Asia-Pacific care hub.
With four main components — Care Townhall, Care Forum, Mindful Business Matching, Care Expo — the summit features 54 exhibitors including from Finland, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Australia, and India, highlighting various innovative care products, skills and technology that showcases the business potential of the rapidly developing care economy.
The care summit is held under the auspices of the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS).
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said this year’s SIBS is distinct as it combines elements of the Selangor Aviation Summit (SAS) and the SICS.
He added that the state government aimed to draw over 3,000 visitors to the event, but on just the first day, 1,100 participants had thronged the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre where SIBS is being held.
“Two segments of the economy (care economy, aviation) that were previously separate have been developed into a comprehensive ecosystem at this (year’s) SIBS, as mentioned at the tabling of the 2025 (state) budget.
“Attendance was significant on day one, over 1,100 people, and we are aiming for more than 3,000 until tomorrow,” he told reporters after launching the SICS.
At the same ceremony, Amirudin witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor and (Yawas) and South Korean company UNIUNI on the use of new technology in senior citizen care.
The menteri besar said the Selangor Care Economy Policy 2024-2030 (DEPNS), which was launched in November, could build a strong care ecosystem and create better economic value.
“Through a SICS exhibit, the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) has launched a (set of) guidelines after several engagement sessions and group discussions.
“I believe it will help shape extraordinary policies that would help strengthen the care economy in Selangor,” Amirudin said.
