KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 10 — Geopolitical stability and technology advancements must be prioritised to ensure that the relationship between Asean members remain strong, says executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han.
He said that the fast-changing abilities of artificial intelligence (AI) and the quick-changing economic landscape globally have forced Asean members to fortify their cross-border ties and increase their digital potential.
“Talks among Asean states have pressed on the importance of building stronger relationships by improving on cross-border infrastructure, applying digital knowledge, and finding better trade solutions.
“This will ensure our place in the global supply chain. Therefore, we need to build a resilient economy and reinforce our ties to build a stronger region,” he said last night.
Ng was speaking at the closing ceremony of the Selangor Asean Business Conference (SABC) 2025, one of the major events of the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) 2025 that is taking place at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).
The executive councillor, who also holds the state’s mobility portfolio, also touched on the importance of the younger generation in ensuring the continued and sustainable growth of Asean.
“The Asean community, which is made up of many young entrepreneurs and innovators, puts us at an advantage.
“Their creativity will shape industries that are competitive, at once ensuring that this region will advance in an inclusive and sustainable way,” he added.
Malaysia, as the region’s chairman this year, is also in charge of the Asean Day celebrations to mark the 58th anniversary of the establishment of the governing body.
Themed ‘Towards an Inclusive and Sustainable Asean Future’, it ties in with the larger Asean theme of ‘Inclusivity and Sustainability’ for 2025.
