KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 — The inaugural Selangor International Care Summit (SICS) became a space for care workers to voice their views.
Wanita Berdaya Selangor (WBS) chief executive officer Siti Faridah Abdul Samad said the summit, which included engagement sessions with various parties, served as a platform to show appreciation for care workers.
“We must admit, behind every healthy family and prosperous community, there is a carer who is the backbone, carrying everyone, be they nurses, social workers, or family members. These are the heroes who often go unseen, but their sacrifice and contributions are of great value.
“That is why the Selangor government launched the Selangor Care Economy Policy in November 2024; to make the state a care sector hub, an inclusive, sustainable and resilient driver,” she said at the Care Townhall programme themed “Recognising the Unseen Backbones: Empowering Selangor Carers”, during the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre here today.
“As of 2024, it was reported that one in five Malaysians are children under 15 or senior citizens aged 65 and above. Both these groups need care. Both these situations increase the need for a care economy that is more comprehensive and sustainable,” Siti Faridah said.
