‘Selangor people highly skilled, could rival Asia’s best’

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 — Although Selangor doesn’t have much in the way of natural resources, its real strength lies in its highly skilled people, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said Selangor’s people can rival Southeast Asia’s best, in the state’s push to establish itself as the regional digital and technology economic hub.

“With this step, we won’t just strengthen the semiconductor and electric and electronics sector, but also create jobs for local industries and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to grow along with the rapid development of the artificial intelligence (AI) and technology sector,” he added.

Amirudin was speaking at the launch of the AI x Semiconductor Blitzscaling Malaysia’s Deep Tech at Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur here today.

Touching on the Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation’s (Sidec) achievements, he said it has helped 320 startups, with 51 per cent of them successfully obtaining financing, and driven the e-commerce sector which has generated a trade value of over RM526.1 million since 2018.

“Many of them also gained exposure at the international stage,” Amirudin said.

Sidec covers AI in health, biotechnology and smart agriculture, as well as 31 SMEs in the food and beverage, health, beauty, fashion, and lifestyle sectors.
