KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 — Selangor aims to assist Asean in strengthening its cross-border investment by enhancing supply chain connectivity.
Invest Selangor Bhd chief executive officer Dato’ Hasan Azhari Idris said that via the Selangor Asean Business Conference (SABC) 2025, the state has outlined several issues to address that would shape Asean’s trajectory.
“As we look ahead, Asean’s future depends on continued collaboration and innovation. The challenges we face, from global economic uncertainty to technological disruption, demand regional solidarity and collective action.
“This is precisely what SABC 2025 seeks to advance. Over the past two days, we have convened leaders from government, industry, and academia to discuss issues that will shape Asean’s trajectory,” he said in his opening remarks at the conference, held in conjunction with the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) 2025 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre today.
Hasan added that this includes managing the evolving geopolitical and technological landscape, as well as empowering Asean’s next generation of innovators and entrepreneurs.
Meanwhile, he also cited the statement made by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin on Selangor’s commitment to advancing high-value industries.
This includes semiconductors through the Selangor IC Design Park, aerospace via the Selangor Aero Park, and the emerging rail and life sciences sectors to promote sustainable industrial growth that addresses future societal needs.
“In line with Malaysia’s broader sustainability goals, Selangor launched the Selangor Agenda for Green Economy (Sage) yesterday, and it will soon follow with the Second Selangor Plan (RS-2).
“The initiatives will deepen our commitment to green energy, sustainable mobility and innovation,” Hasan said.
The initiatives will reinforce Selangor’s position as a forward-looking and competitive state that values both growth and inclusivity.
He noted that Selangor continues to play a vital role in driving Malaysia’s economy, contributing approximately a quarter of the nation’s gross domestic product (GDP).
The state’s strong performance is supported by major infrastructures, like Port Klang and Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), which serve as major gateways for global trade, connectivity, and investment.
Apart from infrastructure, Hasan said progressive policies and a skilled talent pool also contribute to the strengthening of the state economy, which has boosted Selangor’s position as a leading hub in Asean’s evolving economic landscape.
“At Invest Selangor, our role is to facilitate these connections, bringing ideas into action and partnerships into progress.
“We remain committed to supporting investors, industry players and governments. It will build a stronger, more inclusive, and sustainable Asean,” he said.
