KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 — Selangor has made history again as the first state to roll out the IoT-Enabled Industrial Parks (IEIP) programme, a strategic initiative to transform the industrial landscape into a future-proof, intelligent, and sustainable ecosystem.
In his welcome remarks, state executive councillor for Islam and innovation Dr Fahmi Ngah said the state has identified 17 key industrial parks across Selangor to implement the IEIP.
Of these, 70 per cent have been assessed as ready to advance into intermediate or advanced IoT-enabled development stages.
“These parks will be equipped with IoT connectivity, 5G infrastructure including private networks, artificial intelligence (AI) systems, and intelligent utilities, creating an ecosystem that supports high-value industries and sustainable growth.
“The IEIP essentially provides a structured roadmap covering infrastructure planning, policy development, cyber security policies, stakeholder engagement, and performance monitoring,” he said at the programme’s launch at the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) 2025 here today.

Fahmi said that under the IEIP initiative, four key elements will be integrated into participating plants and factories, namely closed-circuit cameras, air quality monitoring, and real-time tracking of energy and water consumption.
Factories are also encouraged to share reports from these environmental parameters with the state government on a voluntary basis, to ensure better long-term policy planning.
“The state is also exploring ways to further incentivise these plants to reduce their emissions and comply with emission targets set under Selangor’s carbon reduction objectives,” he added.
Later, when speaking to the press, Fahmi said the IEIP is an expansion of the state’s Managed Industrial Park (MIP) initiative, which is a gated approach and does not require emission or energy consumption reporting.
“The IEIP is the next iteration of the MIP, where we encourage the adoption of 5G and robotics-based operations. This is an attractive proposition for foreign investors,” he said.
Fahmi added that the IEIP offers more advantages, as 5G connectivity provides greater security, while the use of robotics allows factories to operate around the clock, even in the event of lockdowns such as during the Covid-19 pandemic.
In a statement, Invest Selangor Bhd said the IEIP initiative aligns closely with national priorities under MyDIGITAL and the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP), reinforcing Selangor’s role as a key driver of Malaysia’s Industry 4.0 and sustainable development agenda.
Invest Selangor will spearhead promotional efforts to attract investors, technology partners, and industry leaders to the programme.
