MBI explores recycled water to lower dependence on resources

SHAH ALAM, Oct 8 — Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, has launched a water recycling machine to reduce dependence on water resources.

MBI group chief executive officer Dato’ Saipolyazan M. Yusop said the Micro WRP (water reclamation plant), managed by subsidiary Air Lestari Sdn Bhd, aims to reduce non-revenue water (NRW) in the factory sector.

“This machine will recycle wastewater from factories. This system will clean 70 to 80 per cent of the water to be resold to the factories.

“This latest effort could also lower the flow of waste into rivers and support Sustainable Development Goals,” he told Media Selangor.

Saipolyazan was met at the Selangor Pavilion during the Selangor International Business Summit (SIBS) today, held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

Saipolyazan said the MBI Pavilion comprises its subsidiaries and is hosting a gallery space as a platform to introduce their products and services.

“Among (them)... are the Sabak Bernam Development Area (Sabda) framework, Platform Selangor (PLATS), KDEB Waste Management, and Selangor Aero Park.”

Meanwhile, MBI said it has signed an agreement with the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) on water reclamation, smart manufacturing, and energy transition.

The deal, signed through its subsidiaries Air Lestari, Smartsel, and Heliosel, is aimed at helping industries adopt more sustainable practices.

Through the MOU, Air Lestari will encourage manufacturers to view reclaimed water not just as an alternative, but as a practical everyday solution.

By joining forces with FMM, MBI hopes to build confidence among industry players and open doors to new business models, pilot projects, and collaborations.

The four-day SIBS, which ends Saturday, features over 700 exhibits by local and international industry players.

Held since 2015, this year’s SIBS comes with two new segments — the Selangor International Care Summit (SICS) and the Selangor Aerospace Summit (SAS), previously known as the Selangor Aviation Show.

State executive councillor for investment, trade and mobility Ng Sze Han said he hopes SIBS 2025 logs a potential transaction value beyond the RM13.86 billion achieved at last year’s edition.
