SHAH ALAM, Oct 7 — The state government is intensifying efforts to help more people register on the eKasih platform as many hardcore poor residents are still unregistered.

State executive councillor for human resources and poverty eradication Papparaidu Veraman said that as of August 18, only 753 household heads, out of Selangor’s 14,931 poor households, were registered on eKasih.

eKasih is an integrated national database of poor households that was established to help plan, implement, and monitor poverty eradication programmes.

“I am aiming that by December, there will be an increase (in eKasih registrations). We might have a new plan that we will introduce to boost registrations.

“I think there might be an increase of 10 to 20 per cent. We will focus on rural areas as …. most of the urban poor have channels (to eKasih information) compared with those in villages,” he said.

Papparaidu was speaking after the launch of the Sejahtera Komuniti Madani (Sejati Madani) and eKasih Open Registration event at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Building here today.

Meanwhile, he urged more communities and associations to apply for the Sejati Madani grant, as there is still RM11 million available in funding.

He added that 257 applications have been approved in Selangor to the tune of RM20.7 million, with most initiatives involving agricultural activities that can drive revenue.

“I really like it when the community pursues activities like planting melons, farming fish… more towards agriculture. This aid can boost their morale to keep striving,” he said.

Launched under Budget 2024, Sejati Madani is a national movement that seeks to uplift the people’s role as the main driver of the country’s development.

This programme establishes communities as the owners, implementers and deciders of change in their localities, with the government acting as their strategic partner.
