Key govt offices in PJ may relocate

SHAH ALAM, Oct 1 — Several government buildings in Petaling Jaya New Town, including the Court Complex, Chemistry Department, Forensics Building, Bangunan Persekutuan and the Road Transport Department (JPJ), may be relocated to Section 51 near Jalan Tandang.

The move is part of a proposed public-private partnership (PPP) project under the Prime Minister’s Department, and included in the Draft Special Area Plan (RKK) for Sections 19, 51 and 51A.

The plan is now on public exhibition until October 27 at the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) headquarters, city mayor Mohamad Zahri Samingon was reported as saying by The Star

“During this time, stakeholders are welcome to provide their views and feedback,” he reportedly said.

He said MBPJ has received 56 responses during an earlier publicity exercise, covering issues such as rezoning, road upgrades, urban planning and proposals for a smart tunnel and privately owned public spaces.

“The smart tunnel proposal was dropped due to feasibility issues,” he said.

Following a review, the state government emphasised the need to preserve industrial zoning in Section 51 to support the growth of the semiconductor and high-tech sectors.

“Open space zoning for Lot 95 will revert to industrial zoning, in line with national aspirations to position Malaysia as a semiconductor hub,” he said.

He added that land parcels along the Federal Highway have been proposed for commercial zoning, which could allow for future service apartment developments.

Spanning 4.06sq km, the Draft RKK study area shows Section 19 as primarily commercial with 9,655 residents over 82ha, whereas Section 51 (1,910 residents, 154ha) and Section 51A (12,540 residents, 170ha) are classified as industrial zones.
