SHAH ALAM, Sept 28 — The Ikon Agro Selangor programme launched in 2021 has been a real morale booster for youth to venture into agriculture.
Kuala Langat Farmers’ Organisation senior manager Ahmad Firdaus Abdull Halim, one of the winners for the programme’s 2024/2025 session, said the state’s effort could also maintain Selangor’s position as a national leader in agriculture.
“This programme is a good one and it can maintain Selangor as a leader in agriculture, and I’m sure farmers would be more driven to grow their incomes together.

“My company joined this programme for the first time because we want to make Kuala Langat an example for farmers across Malaysia,” he told Media Selangor.
His company, which manages an industry-scale chilli farm, was named among the 10 Ikon Agro Selangor 2024/2025 winners during Selangor Agrofest yesterday.
Meanwhile, Opus Farm Sdn Bhd founder Johnathan Tan, 37, said Ikon Agro Selangor allows agripreneurs to gather and exchange views.
“I practise hydroponic farming with eight types of vegetables. The project has been ongoing in Shah Alam since 2020. My main challenge is my (lack of access) to other agripreneurs as I’m located in an urban area.
“When this programme is held, I can meet other entrepreneurs and learn from them all, and we share our experiences to grow our agriculture businesses,” he said.

Both Tan and Firdaus took home RM5,000 in cash and equipment worth RM5,000.
Ikon Agro Selangor winners also receive guidance from certain agencies so they may increase their yields and develop their products.
