Child victim of uncle's assault now on ventilator

KOTA BHARU, Sept 26 — A boy who was hit on the head with a hammer by his uncle in Jelawat, Bachok yesterday, is now in the Universiti Sains Malaysia Specialist Hospital's (HPUSM) Intensive Care Unit (ICU) due to persistent bleeding in the head.

The victim, Muhammad Ammar Muhammad Badrul, seven, is being closely monitored and has been put on a ventilator.

His father Muhammad Badrul Remli, 31, asked the public to pray for a miracle for his eldest child.

"Assalamualaikum, friends, this is my child who was beaten in Jelawat, Bachok, the day before yesterday. Seeking your kindness to pray for my eldest child to have all matters facilitated. Critical condition, bleeding in the head is non-stop.

"Hopefully, the prayers from everyone will work a miracle for my son, (Ammar)," he said in a Facebook post today.

Badrul said that he received a call at 4.30pm yesterday from his sister, the suspect's wife, informing him that Ammar had been hit with a hammer.

Upon arriving at the house, he found his son covered in blood and lying in a small room.

“The doctor informed us that Ammar's condition is 50-50 (critical). When I saw him, there was a slight movement in his head as if he wanted to ask for help," Badrul said.

Yesterday, a man suspected of severely beating his nephew with a hammer at a shop house in Jelawat, Kelantan, was found dead near Pantai Melawi, Bachok.

The 46-year-old was found hanging from a casuarina tree about three kilometres from the shop house.

Following that, the police arrested the child's aunt, 36, to assist in the investigation under Section 326 of the Penal Code and Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001.
