SHAH ALAM, Sept 24 — Three districts have been identified as focal points of the creative economy for the gastronomy, animation, and creative hub sectors under the upcoming Selangor Creative Economy Action Plan 2025-2035.

They include Kuala Selangor for gastronomy, Petaling as the location of a youth creative hub, and Cyberjaya, which has an advantage in the animation sector, said Selangor Youth Community's (SAY) chief executive officer Aiman Syafiq Nazri.

He said that they are still studying the artistic strengths of several other districts so that each area can have a distinct creative hub, thereby supporting Selangor's efforts to strengthen the orange economy.

“We will try to align each creative hub with the strengths and advantages of its respective area. Each location will be developed according to its own artistic value.

“The development of these hubs does not require the construction of new buildings, as we will instead utilise existing infrastructure and facilities,” Aiman said.

He was speaking on the final day of the Selangor Creative Economy Expo 2025 (SCEE25) today, which began yesterday, at the MBSA Convention Centre.

SAY is working alongside the State Economic Planning Unit to design a comprehensive development plan for the creative economy and will collaborate with other agencies, including the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) and the Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec).

Yesterday, state executive councillor for youth, sports, and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said that Selangor's creative economy sector has the potential to contribute RM20 billion to the national gross domestic product (GDP).

At present, it contributes only RM2 billion, according to a recent report by the Statistics Department (DOSM).

Following this, the state government will launch the Selangor Creative Economy Action Plan 2025-2035 in November, with a focus on the core areas of multimedia, heritage, and arts and culture.
