SHAH ALAM, Sept 23 — The state government is pressing ahead with strategic steps to position itself as a leading hub for the integrated circuit (IC) industry in the region.

Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari reaffirmed their commitment after holding a meeting with Chinese investment firm China Fortune-Tech Capital (CFTC) in Shanghai today.

“Before leaving Shanghai, I had the opportunity to meet with China Fortune-Tech Capital (CFTC), an investment company focused on the IC industry, covering IC design to materials and supporting equipment, with assets exceeding CN¥3 billion (RM1.77 billion),” he said.

The meeting centred on efforts to expand the semiconductor industry and to drive the development of the Selangor IC Design Park as a hub bringing together local talent, research, and global companies.

“Such initiatives not only complement national efforts to strengthen the semiconductor value chain, but also accelerate commercial opportunities for start-ups in IC design,” Amirudin said.

Selangor launched its first IC design park in Puchong last year and is set to launch a second park in Cyberjaya this November.

Beyond investment, the discussions also emphasised the importance of human capital development through the establishment of the Advanced Semiconductor Academy (ASEM) and the implementation of core training programmes.

These programmes will ensure a supply of highly skilled workers needed by IC firms and the microelectronics industry, thereby boosting Selangor’s global competitiveness.

He added that the ability to produce skilled talent will serve as a catalyst for high-technology foreign direct investment (FDI) and accelerate technology transfer into the state.

Potential cooperation with CFTC also opens opportunities for knowledge and expertise exchange within the semiconductor ecosystem, including developing a local supplier network.

“If realised, this investment will directly benefit the people through high-value job opportunities, technical training for graduates, and economic spill-overs for local entrepreneurs,” Amirudin said.

The Menteri Besar is confident that these efforts will elevate Selangor as a regional leader in the semiconductor industry in the near future.

“InsyaAllah (God willing), the state government will continue to work hard to position Selangor at the forefront of the IC industry in this region,” he said.

Amirudin is in China for a trade and investment mission to explore investment and cooperation opportunities until Tuesday (September 30). Tomorrow, his delegation will depart for Anhui province to continue their working visit.

Its members include state executive councillor for investment, trade, and mobility Ng Sze Han, Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI chief executive officer (CEO) Dato' Saipolyazan M. Yusop, MBI Foundation head Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor, Invest Selangor Bhd CEO Dato' Hasan Azhari Idris, and Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation CEO Yong Kai Ping.
