SHAH ALAM, Sept 23 — The second day of the official working visit of Menteri Besar Dato' Seri Amirudin Shari in Shanghai, China, continued with two key meetings.

He is scheduled to meet with China Fortune-Tech Capital Co. Ltd to discuss potential cooperation in the Selangor Integrated Circuit (IC) Design Park.

The state launched its first IC design park in Puchong last year and is set to launch the second park in Cyberjaya this November. Last year also saw Selangor sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with four major companies, including the United Kingdom's ARM Ltd and China's Shenzhen Semiconductor Industry Association, to strengthen Malaysia's semiconductor hub.

The strategic collaboration also involves Phison Malaysia and SkyeChip in developing the Selangor Hub in Puchong, a specialised centre for IC design and semiconductor drivers.

The hub will be managed by the Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec) starting June next year, with projected economic returns of up to RM1 billion. It is also expected to create many high-skilled job opportunities with salaries of up to RM7,000 per month, giving a significant boost to developing local talent.

The delegation is also scheduled to hold a meeting with Cherry Automobile Co. Ltd. The company is a key strategic investment partner in Selangor, following the signing of an MOU between Cherry Corporate Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Legenda Beringin Holdings Sdn Bhd to develop the Cherry Smart Auto Industrial Park at Beringin High Tech Auto Valley, with a RM2 billion investment value over a five-year period.

The delegation will then depart for Anhui province tomorrow to continue the working visit. Amirudin is in China for a trade and investment mission to explore investment and cooperation opportunities until Tuesday (September 30).

The delegation also includes state executive councillor for investment, trade, and mobility Ng Sze Han, Menter Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI chief executive officer (CEO) Dato' Saipolyazan M. Yusop, MBI Foundation head Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor, Invest Selangor Bhd CEO Dato' Hasan Azhari Idris, and Sidec CEO Yong Kai Ping.
