SHAH ALAM, Sept 22 — The progress of preparations for the Selangor Malaysia Games (Sukma) 2026 is at 60 per cent, encompassing facility upgrades according to contract schedules and logistics coordination for over 400 events in 37 sports.
State executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said logistics coordination is on the right track, while facility upgrades are being done alongside engagements with sports associations, technical officers, and the National Sports Council (MSN).
“From a logistical perspective, God willing, there hasn’t been any significant issue or overlap that could compromise our preparations. Sports facilities are being upgraded according to schedule.
“If Sarawak pulled off over 400 events without issue, we will make that an example to ensure Selangor is on the same track,” he told Media Selangor.
Najwan said the Sukma 2026 concept, theme and volunteer coordination are being decided. Volunteer registration will be open this week to allow those chosen to undergo intensive training next year, which would cover protocol, guest treatment, and their duties for each sport.
He said hospitality is being given special focus as it is often the little things that could balloon if not afforded proper attention.
“Volunteer training emphasises how to manage athletes in the field and event schedule checks, moving them to the venue, and their basic needs. Critical details such as athlete accommodation, transport and food management are being comprehensively refined by the secretariat.
“This approach aims to close operational loopholes and ensure the best experience for contingents and spectators,” Najwan added.
