SUBANG JAYA, Sept 22 — The Selangor Creative Economy Expo 2025 (SCEE25), which kicks off tomorrow, aims to position the creative industry as one of the main drivers of the state’s economic growth.

State executive councillor for entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said the expo, themed ‘Reimagine Selangor: Creativity is the New Economy’, will feature four pillars under the CRE8 concept, namely policy, financing, performance and idea showcases, as well as business matching.

“This is more than just an exhibition. It is a platform that brings together artists, entrepreneurs, and investors through dialogue, presentations, and business networking,” he said in a press conference, yesterday.

Exco for entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi speaks to the press in Subang Jaya, on September 21, 2025.

Najwan said that the event is part of the Selangor Creative Economy Action Plan 2035, which will be tabled at the State Legislative Assembly in November.

“With this, Selangor becomes the first state to give dedicated emphasis to the creative sector in a holistic way.

“I believe SCEE25 will open new opportunities, foster more strategic partnerships, and provide a platform for creative entrepreneurs to scale up.

“I am also confident that the creative sector will emerge as a new growth engine for Selangor’s economy by 2035,” he said.

Najwan said the development of the creative ecosystem would be carried out inclusively and sustainably, and will also be made a core pillar under the Second Selangor Plan (RS-2), which will be tabled by Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said the action plan aims to generate RM20 billion to the state economy by 2035, strengthening Selangor’s role in Malaysia’s creative economy.

“At the Federal level, there was a creative economy policy around 2008–2009, but today Selangor is taking a more serious step in engaging creative entrepreneurs.

“This is also aligned with the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, which highlights the growth of the orange economy,” he said.

SCEE25 will be held on September 23 and 24 at the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) Convention Centre, bringing together over 500 industry players, investors, and government agencies.
