SHAH ALAM, Sept 18 — Selangor's local authorities have been instructed to carry out maintenance works in areas affected by flash floods, said state executive councillor for disaster management Mohd Najwan Halimi.
He said that maintenance must be carried out promptly to ensure flash floods do not recur and burden local residents.
“In terms of disaster preparedness, the state government has no issues and is fully ready. But for flash flood incidents, I have asked the local authorities to carry out maintenance in any areas where water rises.
“The problem is that the affected areas are not designated flood hotspots, but I have asked every local authority to act immediately and implement maintenance works,” Najwan said during a press conference on the Malaysia Games (Sukma) Selangor 2026 today.
Meanwhile, all community leaders, including village heads in nine districts, have undergone disaster management training as part of early preparedness.
“With this training, community leaders are given basic knowledge so that, in the event of any disaster, they can mobilise initial assistance,” he said.
Previously, 43 families were housed at two temporary relief centres at Dewan Serbaguna Kampung Sekolah Sungai Selisik and Dewan Orang Ramai Ulu Bernam after five villages were affected by flash floods.
