SHAH ALAM, Sept 18 — Approximately 474 events will be contested at the Malaysia Games (Sukma) Selangor 2026, the highest number in the biennial multi-sport event's history.

State executive councillor for youth, sports, and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said the figure surpasses the previous record in Sarawak, which offered 469 events.

“The number of sporting events, involving 37 sports, was agreed upon at the Sukma technical committee meeting in August. It is the highest in history, with additional events in cycling, e-sports, and women’s categories.

“The women’s category was expanded following the minister’s (Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh) call for greater opportunities for female athletes. In total, 239 events will involve male athletes, 217 female athletes, and 18 mixed events,” he said during a press conference today.

Najwan added that the 53 competition venues across nine districts in Selangor have been identified as official venues, involving the cooperation of 12 local authorities, public and private higher education institutions, as well as government and private agencies.

“The National Velodrome in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, will also be used for cycling events, as Selangor does not have such a facility. It is owned by the National Sports Council, so there is no issue in our requesting to use it,” he said.

The councillor also announced that registration for states or contingents for Sukma Selangor 2026 will be open for two weeks, starting from November 1 onwards.

Pre-registration for volunteers will be launched on September 30 at Dewan Raja Muda Musa in conjunction with the Selangor Youth Convention.

“The Sukma Selangor 2026 Secretariat will work together with the Selangor Youth Convention to open pre-registration. It will also provide courses and training on how to be good hosts for our guests.

“At the convention, we will also officially launch the campaign to name the Sukma Selangor 2026 mascot,” he said.

Sukma Selangor 2026 is scheduled to take place from August 15 to August 24, while the Para Sukma will run from September 5 to September 14.

The white-bellied sea eagle (helang putih) has been chosen as the official mascot, while the Roman numeral torch XXII serves as the logo for the 22nd edition.
