SHAH ALAM, Sept 17 — Selangor state executive councillor for Islam and innovation Dr Fahmi Ngah has voiced support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s call for stronger collective Muslim action against Israel over the Gaza genocide.
He said he welcomed Anwar’s recent strong statement at the Extraordinary Arab-Islamic Summit in Qatar on Monday, where he urged Muslim nations to cease bilateral diplomatic and trade ties with Israel.
Fahmi added that the condemnation of Israel and declarations would not end the Zionist regime’s aggression against Palestine, and punitive actions must be taken.
“I strongly support the strong statement by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Malaysian Prime Minister, at the Doha Arab-Islamic Emergency Summit on September 15, that Muslim nations must consider ceasing bilateral diplomatic and trade engagements with the Zionist state of Israel as the next steps to end the war in Gaza,” Fahmi said in a statement today.
At the summit, Anwar called for support for the Gaza-bound Global Sumud Flotilla, which recently departed Tunisia to deliver humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza, and said every effort must be made to ensure the fleet reaches Gaza.
In support of Anwar’s stance, Fahmi urged Israel to allow the safe delivery of humanitarian aid by the Global Sumud Flotilla.
“The continued aggression and unilateral actions of Israel against the citizens of Gaza are in clear violation of the principles of international law and basic tenets of humanity.
“May the Muslim nations be united in their action on this issue, in the same manner that Muslims are unified under the same aqidah of Islam,” Fahmi said.
The Global Sumud Flotilla, comprising international aid groups and activists, is carrying essential food and medical supplies to Palestine’s Gaza in an effort to ease the worsening humanitarian crisis in the besieged enclave.
